Vintage pocket tape measurer made by Evans Rule Company. The perfect pocket tape measurer by what was at one time, the largest tape measure manufacturer in the world!
Chrome plated case with 1/2" steel blade marked in eighths and sixteenths. As it was advertised, "black figures on a snow white blade" :) Now, between 2.5" and 5.5" the figures have been worn off (see photo) , but all remaining markings are clear. With a sweet little reminder to measure the case itself as 2 inches marked on it.
And, as the ads states, no other tape was marked the 'Evans way'. This is a great feature whereas, instead of only counting 12", 13", 14" and so on, beyond the 1 foot marking, you get a reminder at each inch of your footage: " 1 ft 3" it will say, and so on and so forth. "Marked so you don't have to figure"! 16 ft studs are also marked with a diamond and circle design.
Winder is in great shape and retracts just fine!
Case comes unscrewed in order to replace the tape- another product Evans made!
MADE IN USA. Nearly all of the measuring tapes sold by Sears, Roebuck, and Co were Evans! (Those made in Canada, out of their Montreal base, are marked so on the steel)
Consider purchasing with the Vintage Evans Pocket Tape Measurer, 6 ft as seen in last 2 photos.
