Make your own gorgeous blended batts for fun and profit! Yay! I'm well pleased to offer this great drum carder for sale. It's an excellent belt-drive carder from Strauch, at a great price
The Petite is a manual drum carder with a polyurethane drive belt. This carder is part of the Strauch product line specifically for fiber artists who have budget or space considerations but want Strauch quality.
The Petite is an excellent choice for a mid-sized carder with full sized features. The Petite is slightly smaller (6½" wide drums) than the standard chain drive (-3/4" wide) models. It includes fine (128 teeth per inch) fiber cloth on the large drum and "Slicker-Licker" on the small drum.
The standard cloth is 128 teeth /sq.in. Designed to handle ALL fibers. In conjunction with the included Brush Attachment, can also be used with fine fibers including Merino, Llama, Alpaca, Cashmere blend, dog hair and other exotics.
This unit uses the famous "Slicker-Licker" (SL), unique to the Strauch carders. Instead of having the same wire pin teeth as the main drum, which tend to grab the fiber as you card it in, requiring you to build up a certain level of fibers, the Slicker-Licker has widely-spaced, sharp blade-like teeth that feed in the fiber smoothly without catching it. They also make it easy to tell when the main drum is full to capacity--only then will fiber start to catch on the licker-in.
The Strauch Petite has 4:1 ratio between the drums.
The fine fiber brush attachment is automatically included with this listing and will be factory-installed for you.
Like all Strauch carders, the Petite is well-built and a pleasure to use. The last pictures show batts carded with a Strauch drum carder.
I'm currently offering free shipping in the continental (and I'll cover the first $35 to Alaska or Hawaii) AND a half pound of mixed fibers--enough for about half a dozen batts--to get you started carding and blending. The fibers shown (pictured with Strauch Finest model) are just an example and will vary. You'll get a mix that may include commercially and hand-dyed fiber, scoured fleece, natural colored and dyed tops, sparkle, silk, bamboo, blending nylon, locks, and odds and ends, so you can start playing right away!
You'll also get my special carding tips.
Special tools included with each "Petite" are: -The popular Knuckle-Saving-Batt-Pick, an invaluable tool for removing the batt without damage to the equipment or the user. -Doffer/Cleaner Brush to thoroughly and easily clean any residual fibers from the carding drum. -A small cleaner/dabber brush for use on the licker drum (It's also great for cleaning off your work surface) -A table clamp for securing your carder to your work surface.
