Our interpretation of a traditional Scottish Dealgan, or Fearsaid (Drop Spindle).
A dealgan (farsadh) is a drop spindle for hand spinning yarn that was traditionally used in the Western Isles of Scotland (and some parts of Canada). Dealgan and farsadh loosely mean "spindle" in Gaelic.
The yarn is wound around the shaft to form the cop like on a nostepinne, giving the added benefit of ending up with a centre pull ball.

The weight will vary slightly from piece to piece and will also depend on the type of wood used, such is the nature of wood.
I love my new dealgan! It has a lovely weight to it, and feels great to use. Apart from that, it is a beautiful piece of art. I like the traditional look of it.

I was surprised at how light the spindle was, but it works and is different from all my other spindles. Not a criticism! I like it very much. It was nicely packaged and speedily delivered. Thank you. Marcia aka Topsy
