Mid-whorl Turkish spindle made in a choice of woods and Dymondwood medium size/light weight MADE TO ORDER
This item will be made to order. Approximate waiting time for manufacture 1-2 weeks.
This design has a specially designed super-slim sterling silver hook so it can be used like a traditional drop spindle. The hook is slim enough to pass easily through the shaft holes in the whorl arms. The whorl is fitted from the hook end as usual with Turkish spindles.
Maker - Malcolm Fielding.
The crossed halved arm Turkish whorl is made from your choice of the timbers offered in the options area of the listing (photo #1 shows model in Red Beech, others in Lace Sheoak) .The upper arm locates firmly at right angles within the housing on the lower arm (line up the locating dots on the arms) and the shaft holes are a fit to the taper on the shaft to hold the whorl nicely in position. The whorl is finished with fine hand sanding and then two coats of Organoil (an organic oil blend of tung oil and mixed citrus oils).
The upper arm is designed to slide out of the ball of wool first after the shaft is removed when you finish spinning. Being a smooth curve it will slide out sideways. Removing the shaft after spinning is by threading the shaft back through - place a short section of drinking straw over the superslim hook and slide the wool turtle off the shaft. The slimline hook with straw section fitted passes through the whorl easily if kept in a straight line. Four straw pieces supplied, a standard drinking straw diameter.
The balance has been tested and corrected by adjustment of the arm weights for smooth performance.
It weighs in the range 20-23 grams (0.73 oz) with a shaft length of around 210 to 225 mm (8.5 to 9 in) and whorl diameter 100 mm (4 in).
All my spindles are spin tested (with and without fibre) before despatch, packed with care in high strength card tubing, and supplied with a free sample of top quality Australian fibre to get you acquainted with your new tool. SEQUENCE #1019G
Mid-whorl Turkish spindles are very rare. I've only seen one other before but I didn't buy it because it looked like the proverbial "boat anchor." This mid-whorl Turkish spindle is lightweight & easy to use.

Cancellations - please consider carefully when you order as I do not accept cancellation requests unless there are exceptional circumstances. An order cancellation involves quite a bit of time as the original order has to be removed from our database, after being entered and customer records created, refunds arranged and we have to correspond with Etsy about it. The goods involved are also then unavailable to buyers, for up to a week after we send a cancellation request to Etsy. In the event that we agree to a cancellation, we may then then make a cancellation charge of $10 US or 10% of the order value whichever is greater to cover our losses in administration time. In law in most countries a paid order is a contract between both parties, Etsy.com policy is that cancellations are at the sole discretion of the supplier.
I will replace goods at my cost (or refund item costs) that are found to be faulty in manufacture for up to six months from sale. Faulty items must normally be returned to me. Damage caused by inappropiate use or fair wear and tear is not covered by my warranty. The buyer is responsible for the cost of returning items to me, replacements will be shipped free of charge.
I can quote to repair items that have been damaged by the owner or accidentally. Please contact me for details.
Currently I am unable to take custom orders, sorry.
