Item details

This matching pair of Putri Duyung Mermaid Cabinet Door Knobs or Drawer Pulls features solid brass castings of a mythical sea goddess that each measure about 77mm or a bit over 3 inches in length.

Each mermaid is on her belly, her textured fish tail pointed upwards, her hands extended in the direction of her sister opposite.

These would be great novelty items in your beach house, or the perfect finishing touch as cupboard door handles in a girl's bedroom.

Made in Indonesia, each handle comes ready to install with two slotted metal screws as shown in some of the photos. You may still need to source your own screws to suit your project.

PAYPAL is my preferred method of payment. Don't have it? You can still pay that way using your credit card. Just click on the PayPal icon at checkout and follow the prompts.

Putri Duyung or Puteri Duyung is the Indonesian term for a mermaid.

An Indonesian legend relating to a mermaid apparently originated a long way off in Syria.

Atargatis was the chief goddess of northern Syria in Classical Antiquity, and was worshipped principally as a goddess of fertility. She was also a protector of her people. (They could surely do with her help again now.)

According to one legend, she fell in love with a youth and became pregnant by him, later giving birth to a female child.

In shame, she flung herself into a lake near Ascalon and her body was changed into the form of a fish, though her head remained human.

According to Indonesian legend, Atargatis was most unlucky in love. Broken-hearted, she decided to seek true love elsewhere.

She left Syria and swam all the way to Indonesia, where she became known as Putri Duyung.

Indonesians love a little magic and mystery, and so the tears of Putri Duyung are bottled and sold as a charm oil, apparently making one irresistible to the opposite sex, bestowing increased libido, and even capable of making an unfaithful lover return.

The trick must undoubtedly be in how you succeed in anointing the skin of the target of your affections with a few drops of this love potion.

“Chance is always powerful. Let your hook always be cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be fish.” Ovid
