Yarn bowls are my favorite gift to make for people. I don't knit but am surrounded by a group of fiber artisan friends who love them. Clients routinely tell me that they are "works of art." Recently someone said "Gorgeous piece of functional art. This bowl is the perfect gift for the serious knitter."
This listing gives Mary an "M" and Lori an "L" and Sara an "S." I've done lots of letters. Just let me know in the notes section which letter you want.
They are sturdy bowls. I leave the bottom thick and wide (like me :)) so they stay put. The rim is gently sloped inward to keep the yarn ball in place. The design is austere so as to not compete with the wood's beauty.
As a birthday, anniversary, holiday or Mother's Day gift, you can't go wrong. Everything I make is made-to-order, so feel free to tell the recipient that you had this handmade just for them. Gift-wrapping is always free.
It is shown in black walnut but you may choose copper beech, cherry, hickory, spalted maple, or regular walnut.
We work exclusively with discarded wood, the majority of which spalted. Caught at just the right time, spalted wood is magnificent to look at, lasts for generations and ensures that each piece is one-of-a-kind.
To care, wash with mild soapy water, rinse and dry immediately. To restore the finish, occasional wipe down with walnut oil.
These are made to order, it will take 3-4 weeks to complete.
It comes in two sizes: Small 4"h x 4.5"d and Large 4.25"h x 6"d.
I wanted a special yarn bowl for a dear friend who is learning to crochet after the loss of her son. And this was it! The wood was gorgeous and having the initial of her son in it made it all the more meaningful. When I gave it to her, she hugged it to her chest. Thank you for helping me with such a meaningful gift.
