About the Carico Lake Mine:
Carico Lake turquoise is known for its clear, iridescent, spring green color which is due to its zinc and copper content. Carico Lake stones can also display a dark blue-green color with a black spider web matrix. Recent finds are producing many new blue tones with even, black matrix. The colors and scarcity of Carico Lake turquoise make it a valuable addition to any collection. The Carico Lake mine also hosts another precious stone, faustite, which features a bright lime green color due to its higher zinc content.
Carico Lake is named for its home on a dried-up lake bed in high, cool Lander County, Nevada. Some turquoise businesses marketed this stone under various names including Stone Canyon and Aurora turquoise, although this is rarely seen today. Due to its remote location and harsh conditions in the winter, there is a limited amount of time allowed to mine this rare turquoise. These factors add to the investment value of Carico Lake turquoise.
Gus Stenich was one of the earliest owners of this mine. Due to losing much of his turquoise to foragers and thieves, Gus became suspicious of all activity that he saw around the mine. Just prior to his death, Gus made out a will hastily written on a bread wrapper. In this will, he left the entire mine to his best friend J.W. Edgar.
The small percent of available natural Carico Lake turquoise as well as its history makes it valuable addition to any collection.
Natural American turquoise is only a small percentage of the American turquoise sold on the world market today. Much of the current supply has been stabilized or enhanced due to the very limited quantity of good natural stone.
Prices should continue to rise.
If the stone/stones do not completely fulfill your expectations, simply repackage them in the package I sent them to you in, put a new address label on the front and return to me for a refund of your purchase.
One More Note:
I have done my best to get the most accurate representation of the stone/stones. I have noticed that the photos look slightly different on different computers, and with different lighting, etc. I take the photos under natural light with a quality camera or iPhone and with no alterations. Other than cropping, you will find no color, clarity, or photo enhancements of any kind. I can assure you that the photographs do not do any stone true justice in my mind.
Also take note of the size. I have made sure to take careful measurements for you in an effort to give you the most accurate description.
I am selling these from my personal collection. I have been a collector for most of my adult life. I have Native American jewelry, arts, crafts and a collection of turquoise stones from a variety of U.S. Mines.
Check my other items frequently. I will be adding to the inventory regularly.
