Chartreuse miniature strawberry pincushion. I love the color combination of my hot pink strawberries with chartreuse felt, so I decided to flip the colors and make a chartreuse berry with hot pink felt!

My grandmother had one of those tomato pin cushions with a little strawberry dangling off it. I bet yours did too. I found out later that the little strawberry was more than just a pretty decoration – it was a pin sharpener!

This is my version of the old-fashioned favorite. My strawberries measure approximately 1 ½” long (not including the ribbon) so you can use it as the traditional pin and needle sharpener or as a teeny, tiny pin cushion. These are created from a chartreuse patterned cotton fabric and are stuffed with fine emery sand to keep your pins sharp and rust-free. Each strawberry has an inner layer of muslin to keep the emery from coming out the minute pin holes. Felt greenery and a loop of ribbon just long enough to fit around the strawberry (for easy attachment to another item like the handle of your scissors) are added. When I am working on a project, it is great to have a place to put the occasional pin or needle and be able to find it quickly.

These strawberries would make a delightful gift for handy bridesmaids, your favorite sewing addict or just a guilty pleasure for yourself! The petite size makes it a great stocking stuffer.
