100 Bolivian fair-trade huayruros beads in natural red and black! These beads were purchased in Bolivia near Samaipata for fair-trade prices, which helps artisans earn a better standard of living. Because they are grown, these beads have variable sizing. Average beads run 5mm x 2mm. In Bolivia, huayruro like this are called sirara.
Sirara are known as the most powerful protector from jealousy and evil. In Bolivia, you fill bottles with them and put them in the window to protect a home. They are woven into purses and set into knives as eyes. And of course, they are worn as jewellery. I have a heavy strand over the front door at home. These beads are sacred to many African cultures too. Yoruba and Obeah carried them for protection. The red and black colour is a reference to Elegua, who opens all doors.
Do not eat them or let animals chew on them. Also, they are not viable for planting, I think, since they've been drilled.
Perfect! I have a hand carved branch w/7 birds from Jamaica and several have lost their eyes. I've been searching for these red/black beads for years so I can replace and display it. These are just what I needed! Item just as described. Great seller and would buy from again.
