This is a selection of 3 vintage Bakelite buttons which are 5/8 inch diameter (5/8" H). They are all black with a design that is chunky, as deep as they are wide.
I have tested them in hot water and they tested positive for the "Bakelite plastic smell" Unique to the 1930's or 1940's.
Fun and original for crafting!
I keep my buttons sewn to a card in a cardboard card file box to keep them open to air. My background cards are vintage reference cards from a library card catalog. These buttons are set on a card for "A Nation of Immigrants" by John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1964. My home is both smoke and mildew free.

With some of the listings I will be able to accurately list the type of fabric. Often times, however, there is no printed indication of the type of fabric. I have performed burn tests to determine whether the fibers are natural or synthetic but occasionally a fabric will have both. Some, but not all selvages may have the original manufacturers brand name. I will relay as much information as I can for each listed piece in order to bring ease to your purchasing process. Laundering of your new purchases should be determined by yourself (by first laundering a test swatch) before you cut and sew your project. Standard laundering processes apply for specialty fabrics (e.g. silk, rayon, cotton, etc.). All pieces come from a smoke and mildew free environment. Should you have any further questions or concerns regarding a specific piece, please do not hesitate to contact me through the shop.
