HELLO, I WILL BE AWAY FROM THE 27TH NOVEMBER TO THE 4 DECEMBER. ALL ORDERS FROM THIS PEROID WILL BE POSTED ON THE 4-5 DECEMBER.
FILIPENDULA VULGARIS 'DROPWORT'
Rosaceae: A grassland perennial to 0.8 m (2ft 7in) by 0.4 m (1ft 4in), this plant could be described as the down land version of Meadowsweet. Dropwort differs from Meadowsweet in having a more open, and possibly more attractive, flower cluster with fewer but larger unscented flowers, and very attractive leaves, flowering occurs from May to August. Native to Europe, including Britain, from Scandinavia south and east to North Africa, Siberia and the Caucasus.
The young leaves can be eaten raw or cooked, and added to salads and soups. The root can also be used raw or cooked, but are rather bitter, said to taste better if roasted.
The root has anthelmintic and lithontripic properties. It is used in the treatment of epilepsy, kidney and bladder stones, genital discharges and intestinal worms.
A spring germinating plant best sown from autumn – early spring. Prefers a well-drained moisture retentive soil but dislikes shade. Can tolerate dry soils and grows well on calcareous soils. Easy.
