Helix Knitting is an interesting technique involving stripes of single rows, worked circularly. Knitting stripes circularly in the normal manner–one round of one color, then one round of another color– creates a jog, or“steps”, in the stripes, where they don’t meet up cleanly at the beginning of the round. This disturbs some people and certain techniques have been devised to avoid the jog.
Helix knitting takes a different approach, for each color stripe is on its own path. This is possible because circular knitting is actually a spiral, not a circle, and by staggering the starting point of the different colors used, each color will wind its way around the knitting unimpeded by the other colors. It is an easy technique with just a few details to be adhered to, as is explained in the accompanying pattern.
Three skeins of Wildfire Luxury Sock yarns (dark brown, medium brown, and grey) by Brown Sheep Co. are used in this knitting kit for my Helix Socks pattern. The kit includes my printed pattern for Helix Socks in a project bag.
These socks are knitted from the cuff to the toe (top down) at a gauge of 28 sts and 44 rounds/4 inches (10 cm). US size 0/ 2.0 mm double-pointed needles (or size needed to obtain gauge) are needed to work the socks and are not included in the kit.
The sizes available are Medium woman (Large woman, Small man, Medium Man, Large man); Circumference of foot: 8 (8½, 9, 9½, 10)".
