Striking with its grey-green deeply divided leaves which are covered with fine silky hairs. Fast growing with pleasantly sweet-scented foliage. Kept clipped, it can be shaped into an attractive silver-green 2-4 foot tall hedge. Wormwood is an excellent background plant in the herb or flower garden; Wormwood around the garden to deter insects. In the house a sachet made of wormwood leaves will keep moths at bay. A tea made from wormwood will repel insects effectively. The foliage makes an excellent base for dried wreaths and winter bouquets but should be shaped while fresh as it is brittle when dry. Sow seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Needs light to germinate. Transplant into the garden after all danger of frost 24 inches apart, in rows 3 feet apart. Direct sowing is not recommended. Prefers full sun. Drought tolerant once established, Wormwood looks best when given some summer water. Heat and deer resistant.
