Honey Scented, Finest Shrub, Beautiful Foliage, Autumn Colour, Tolerates mild Frost An exciting and apparently rarely encountered newcomer to our garden. Large creamy-veined leathery leaves topped by outstanding golden flower heads. Perhaps one of the finest shrubby plants in cultivation. The name 'mellifera' refers to the sweet fragrance of honey produced by the flowers. As you see on the picture, another reason it is popular in gardens - its foliage. Indeed, garden designers give it high praise as the finest member of euphorbia family. They're excellent for arranging (if you pick with gloves on and sear the stem ends in boiling water) and are the perfect foliage foil to any flowery border.
Soil/Site Preference: Most soils, moist but well-drained/full sun to part shade.
Hardiness: Tolerates mild frost
Sowing advice: A. SOW FINELY AND EVENLY. COVER THINLY WITH COMPOST OR GRIT. GERMINATE IN GENTLE HEAT OR IN A WARM BRIGHT SPOT OUTSIDE. GROW-ON INDIVIDUAL SEEDLINGS IN 3 INCH POTS BEFORE PLANTING OUT.
