This listing is for this strand of Vintage Mali Wedding Beads. This is the strand that you will receive.
This strand is actually 29" long and has a preponderance of red beads, both opaque and translucent. If that's what you like, this is the strand for you. It also has a goodly amount of great yellows. And great translucent greens. As well as the cobalts that everyone is looking for. It looks just like candy!! These are the small size beads that are so colorful and hard to come by these days. Lightweight and dainty bulbs of Bohemian glass from the old Czechoslovakia for trade in Africa.
I'm thinking that since these are slightly, and just slightly, bigger than the ones made later on in the 1950's, these are maybe those made in the 1920's. I could be wrong, but they are at least mid-century.
This is a full full strand. Rainbow Teardrops, drilled through near the top narrow end. The beads vary in size from 1/2" - 5/8" or approximately 12.7 - 15.88mm tall and about .25" at their widest or approximately 6.35mm. Lovely to wear as is or to take apart and use in your own projects. You've certainly got plenty of sweet glass beads to use.
Usually given to girls in Mali to wear on their wedding day, it is becoming harder to find the smaller sized and lighter weight beaded necklaces such as these two in their full state. They are quite comfortable to wear. Because of their light weight. There is mono-filament underneath the thread wrapping at the back neck of this "necklace" strand. This strand seems good to go as is, but of course, careful re-stringing is always up to you.
