Item details

This product was part of the 2016 Make For Good collection, a project powered by Etsy sellers from Australia and New Zealand in support of Plan International’s Because I Am A Girl campaign.

The theme for the Make For Good 2016 collection was “Creating a Brighter Future.” I designed a range of garments for young girls, aged 3 months to 3 years that are bright and fun- enjoy sewing!

Styling tips!

I decided on a colour scheme and then bought a few metres of poplin in each colour. Poplin is cheap and light, and handles well when sewn. This way I could make a collection of garments in different colours, which still resulted in a coordinated look when worn together.

So many fabrics are suitable for this dress or top, including up-cycling options. Consider using second-hand shirts, or even sheets! Make the most of the reversible nature of the garment, by choosing contrasting fabrics or patterns. Don’t restrict yourself to Summer styles either- make to match leggings and wear over them in cooler weather. Use scraps for a bow or headband. Make it your own!

Sewing expertise:

Advanced beginner- only basic sewing skills required. The trickiest part is visualising which pieces go together when working from the inside. It is worth it to complete a fully reversible garment though! I have made a video tutorial to help with the tricky part. It is available from:

Estimated time to complete:

2-3 hours

Designed for:

Sizes 000 – 3

3 months/62cm tall/6kg to 3 ½ years old/100cm tall

Materials required:

Non-stretch light-weight fabric (such as poplin, broadcloth,
shirting, voile, linen and linen blends)
Matching thread
Overlocker not necessary
Small amount of interfacing desirable
Small amount of fusing desirable
Either buttons or ribbons for back closure (if using buttons,
a short piece of thin elastic to make loops from, or pre-made
looped elastic is fantastic if you can find it!)

NOTE: This is not a final product. It is a digital pattern in PDF from, which will be available for printing immediately after purchase. It is formatted to print on A4 paper, but the margins are large enough that it will work in American letterhead size paper also- just make sure you print the test square page first.
