The seaside is my very favourite place to be and my ‘Jolly Whales’ quilt is a fun project, which is simple to make, but adorable and very striking and features three large whales frolicking in the ocean swell!
My ocean is made from blues and greys and the waves created with free-hand machine quilting. I’ve included a detailed cutting list and piecing diagram in my pattern so you can recreate my design, but why not create your own unique stripy wavy combination.
The whales are all brought to life by my favourite fusible raw edge appliqué and free machine drawing techniques, though my designs are suitable for most appliqué methods. Embellished with embroidery and buttons to give them a real character, you can make your whales really happy by stitching them a broad smile.
The kit comes in a reusable small jute shopping bag with lovely padded handles and features beautiful Moda fabrics, including the signature indigo textured print from Janet Clare. The kit includes the fabric required to complete the quilt top and bind:
• Light grey, light blue, mid-blue fabric, ½ yd of each – to piece the background • 2/3 yard Indigo blue fabric – for appliqué whales and binding • 15 x 23in Fusible web – for appliqué whales • Three ½” navy buttons – for the whale eyes • Dark navy embroidery thread - for embellishing the whales • Full colour 11 page pattern with cutting list, detailed instructions, photographs and full size appliqué templates, a detailed layout guide and lovely colour photographs, making it suitable for novice and experienced stitchers alike
Please note, the kit does NOT include the following, which you will need to finish your quilt: • Wadding, 44 x 48 in • Backing fabric, 1 1/3 yd • Neutral thread for piecing • Quilting threads
