Item details

This huge shawl plays with fluffy brioche and lace and is super airy, that’s how it got its name. Airi is also a traditional Finnish female name.

This is kind of a traditional shawl too: it has some lace, but with luxurious hand-dyed yarn in modern colors and a statement color stripe combined with an i-cord edge, it looks contemporary.

Also it matches with everything! You can make it fun by using crazy speckled yarns or more sophisticated with simple high quality yarns. Or how would it look with two different blacks?
The same pattern gives you many different looks from chic to dramatic.

The best part about Airi is that’s super easy to knit: there’s no purling in fluffy brioche and only some purl stitches in easy lace. Just watch some Netflix and enjoy knitting!

Size: 250 cm x 70 cm after blocking with sock yarn, 225 cm x 65 cm with single yarn.

You'll need 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn + a mini skein.
Color A = Fluffy brioche color 100 g (3,5 oz)

Color B = Lace color 100 g (3,5 oz)

Color C = Stripe and i-cord color 20 g (0,7 oz)

You need also a 80 cm circular needle 4,0 mm = US 6.

Gauge: Garter stitch 18 sts / 10 cm (4”) before blocking.

This pattern contains a PDF that tells you row by row that to do next. There's also many useful tips.

Easy and happy knitting!

FAQs

I use professional acid dyes and quality yarns. After dying I rinse the yarns carefully. I also wash them as long as they don't bleed. Some really bright colors or yarns with a lot of speckles may bleed a little bit during first washes and that's normal. After washing I let them dry for a couple of days but never hang them when they all wet so they won't stretch.

Although most of my yarns are superwash merino, I recommend cold hand-wash. That's how the dye stays at its best. For the same reason I never wash my knitted items without any reason, only if they have stains. Fresh air is usually enough. I have tested my yarns in washing machine. And yes, the dye stays. But still: cold hand-wash, please!

Yes you can, just contact me in 14 days of delivery and ship them back in 21 days. I do understand that even though I try to photograph the yarns as they are in nature and be as realistic as possible, we can see them differently from different screens. Buyers are responsible for shipping costs for both ways. I return the cost of the item.

I like there's a main color and some speckles to support the idea. I don't want them to be too fuzzy so they match with other yarns easily. I also like using white as an element. It brightens the look and makes yarn vivid. I like to keep color combinations interesting and contemporary, and I read a lot of fashion magazines. I want my yarns also to match the clothes I'm wearing. I have recipes for the color combos but I prefer using my eyes. That's why the next dye lot is never exactly the same. If you like to have a bigger amount of some colorway, please contact me. I do custom orders.

There are no animals in my dying studio, but we have cats at home. I store my yarns in boxes at home and even though I wouldn't let the cats near the yarns, I can't guarantee totally animal free zone for the yarns, sorry!
