This is a beautiful oval shape number eight turquoise cut in 1973 while I was living in northern California.
The color of this turquoise is a medium blue and is backed. Stone measures 13mm X 19mm X 4.5mm and weighs 10cts. The shape is an oval with a soft rounded top.
In the mid 70s,I was living in Marin County and would travel into San Francisco to do business with a home-based lapidary operation. This man would cut stones in his basement and the floor would be wetland stained with whatever color of stone he was working on. He would often travel to Nevada to buy rough and bring it back to cut in his studio. This was right before the number eight mine had closed and was his source for turquoise rough. At the time I didn't appreciate what I was buying .I'm thankful that he insisted I bought parcels of this turquoise instead of two or three pieces at a time.
