Cowrie shells mounted on handspun, handwoven Indian wild silk in a patterned horn frame.
The Story Shells were one of the first forms of currency. An early prestige item. The commodity silk was one of the drivers of the powerful textile trade establishing early trade routes. The horn makes the connection with the illegal commodity trade of rhinoceros horn driving the animal to near extinction.
