This product was part of the 2016 Make For Good collection, a project powered by Etsy sellers from Australia and New Zealand in support of Plan International’s Because I Am A Girl campaign.
The theme for the Make For Good 2016 collection was “Creating a Brighter Future.” I designed a range of garments for young girls, aged 3 months to 3 years that are bright and fun- enjoy sewing!
I decided on a colour scheme and then bought a few metres of poplin in each colour. Poplin is cheap and light, and handles well when sewn. This way I could make a collection of garments in different colours, that still resulted in a coordinated look when worn together.
So many fabrics are suitable for this skirt, including up-cycling options. Consider using second-hand shirts, or even sheets! Mix and match colours and patterns for each side of the skirt, and the waistband. Don’t restrict yourself to Summer styles either- make to match leggings and wear over them in cooler weather. Use scraps for a bow or headband. Make it your own!
Advanced beginner- only basic sewing skills required. There is a lot of gathering, but no specific sewing skills required. I have made a video tutorial to help visual learners. It is available from:
