This particular piece is a disc shaped glass bead, capped and cored. The base of the bead is copper green, and the surface is intricately decorated with sandstone ivory scrollwork, dot, and line patterns. The bead has been etched for a matte finish.
The caps are also handmade by me, in sterling silver. The caps are fixed to the bead with a sterling silver tube riveted through the center.
The bead itself is 19 mm from hole to hole and 41 mm at its widest point. And to note, these beads are solid glass, not hollow..giving substantial weight to the bead.
The hole of this bead is cored with 3/16" tubing, allowing design possibilities to be endless. You can simply thread it through a chain once, or twice, or run multiple strands of seed beads, just to name a few things I have done personally with them.
All of my beads are made by me, completely by hand. I use Moretti, Vetrofond, Lauscha, ASK, CIM, Double Helix, and Reichenbach glass. All beads are kiln annealed to ensure strength.
