"Land of the Silver Birch" quilt pattern, written and designed by Beth van Wyngaarden. Finished size approximately 54" by 54". Skill level required , advanced beginner or intermediate.
This pattern takes the quilter, step by step, through the method I have developed to make this birch tree quilt. The supplies, fabric requirements and preparation are clearly identified. In stage 1 of the pattern you layout the background for the quilt. In stage 2 you piece together the birch trees. In stage 3 you insert the birch trees into the background you have created. Stage 4 is the finishing step where you layer, quilt and bind. I show you examples of quilting patterns I used to finish my quilts.
The technique I show you in this pattern can be used to make a quilt with any type background you would like. On my website you can see that I have made a birch tree quilt for every season! You could use a solid piece of fabric for the background for a modern look or add fabric colours to hint at a sunset behind the trees. Your imagination is the limit.
You could change the size of the quilt by changing the size of the background squares or adding more or less. The technique of creating the background then inserting the trees remains the same.
I know you will enjoy creating a birch tree quilt of your own!
