Please note - this is a digital crochet pattern for a mermaid tail blanket, not the finished item. It comes in PDF format which will be downloadable after payment.
The Southsea Seashell Mermaid Tail blanket is an easy and relaxing blanket to make using simple stitches, but you will need some basic crochet knowledge. If you are a beginner I would suggest that you do some practising of basic stitches (UK trebles, half trebles and doubles) (USA doubles, half doubles and singles) before you begin. You will also need to know how to double two together and treble two together (USA single two together and double two together). There are lots of good free crochet tutorials online.
The pattern is for a snuggly adult size blanket but advice is also given for scaling the blanket down to child or baby size by using lighter weight yarns and smaller hooks. It contains 22 pages of instructions in both UK and USA terminology. The USA instructions are fully reproduced in a separate section so that you don’t get confused. There are colour photographs throughout.
The blanket is made using 5 x200g balls of UK chunky yarn (I think this is called bulky yarn in the USA), each ball containing 312 metres/341 yards, and a size 8.00mm crochet hook (USA size L).
The pattern is worked side to side, not in the round. This leaves the option to join the tail either all the way from top to bottom making an all enclosing tube, or to join it to whichever point on the tail is best for you. In the original design the person I was making it for wanted it joined halfway up so that her feet and lower legs were cosy in the sewn up part, leaving the top part loose to drape around her upper legs and hips. The point at which I joined it is shown in picture 4 above.
Sales of digital patterns are non-refundable but I am happy to answer messages in case of any difficulties or queries whilst making the blanket.
