Item details

After starting out with just the plain, straight-as-they-come felting needles (you know what I'm talking about, just the hook part), I decided to give needles with grips a shot. I'd been using the grip-less ones for at least half of my time needle felting.

I found that they were so much more comfortable to use, even just a single point needle with a grip. I could felt all day! My hands did not get tired. Yes, I know there are tools out there, I even have the clover pen. But the way I'm used to holding the needle, I just kept reaching for the ones with the grips more than my tools. Everyone has his/her own preference.

But... they were plain. I get it, the latex dips don't exactly come in inspiring colors. I'm the type of person who loves to surround myself with cute, fun, colorful tools. I've even gone as far as ordering the kawaii office supplies from Japan. There's a mall around here that has a Sanrio store, full of stationery and cute office and school supplies, things like that.

This is why I'm making fun, colorful grips for my needles. I use the same ones that I'm making for you, and I'm making them the same as I make them for myself. I want the tools I use to be fun, pretty, different, even inspiring.

I know there are a million choices for needles out there, some sellers even give you up to 15 different types (one of each)! Trying to pick out needles can be confusing, so I'm just offering the ones that I found, after over three years of needle felting, to be the only ones I really need or use. Sure, I have stars and triangles, but they mostly go unused. They're there in case I break all my spirals. If you need a little more help on deciding which ones to use, I wrote a handy (ultimate) guide to felting needles, explaining what the different types are and gauges and what they're used for. It's available on my blog:

This listing is for two 38-gauge spiral needles with grips, one with a double point and one with a single point. Both the single and double will come in the same color (this listing is for the Luscious Lavender ones). I make my needles with various color grips, but I will never use the same color for two different types of needles. What that means is that if I use a marbled purple/hot pink for my 38-gauge spirals, I will not use that same color combo for my 40-gauge spirals. The blade (a.k.a. working part of the needle) is 3/4" long. The grip is permanently attached to the needle and protected with a pearlescent gloss glaze for a nice, shiny coat. Best of all, they have the gauge and type engraved right into the grip (SP for spiral, not to be confused with S for Star)!

The needles are the highest-quality, steel industrial felting needles I can find. I get them straight from the source, and these are the same needles I use for all my projects. I refuse to buy or use anything else. They are absolutely not brittle, and will even bend a little if you accidentally find yourself felting at an angle before they break. Even bent, they're still usable! I've only ever broken one, and that was because I forgot the needle was stuck in my foam before stacking a bunch of stuff on top and heard it snap. I've never broken one while working on a project. I gave one of my double-pointed needles to a friend and studio owner who is learning to felt and where I will be teaching local classes, and it's still going strong. We've had numerous young children felt with these, and none of the needles have broken. As long as you remember to pull the needle out at the same angle you stab it in, these will last you a long time. I'm not going to say they're break-proof, because I don't think any needle is, but of all the ones I've tried, these are the most forgiving.

If you want to see these in action, watch a few of my videos on my youtube channel,
