Weaving Shuttle, Wabi Sabi, Large Navette, Bobbins, Thread Spool, Weaving, Looming, Antique Thread Bobbin, French Antiques, circa early 1900s
A lovely untouched industrial shuttle thread bobbin in very good condition. To the best of my knowledge there are no parts missing and it comes complete with the original thread. The metal tips are a little rusty. The underside opening was at some point 'sealed' with tape which would be very easy to remove if needed. There are 6 old woodworm holes, these are no longer inhabited. The wood is most likely a fruitwood as.
A Little History : Originally shuttles were passed back and forth by hand. In 1733 the flying shuttle was invented, this shuttle could be thrown through the warp, allowing much wider cloth to be woven more quickly and made the development of machine looms much simpler. Though Air Jet, and Water Jet Looms are common in large operations, many companies still utilize flying shuttle looms. This is due in large part to their being easier to maintain than their modern counterparts.

A lovely piece which I think belongs in a proper collection of similar items and would make a lovely gift for a 'looming connoisseur'.
