This pick was born from customer feedback and some practical experience. While my original solder pick works perfectly for what I designed and typically use it for. We have found that when working on large projects it can overheat and start to bend. When we had to build a large and very heavy silver belt buckle, this pick was devised to hold down and move elements while soldering.
The Business end is made from 1/8th inch (about 3mm) Grade 2 Titanium rod, which is set into one of my signature hardwood handles. This rod is a full inch longer than my original Soldering pick, which helps keep your hands away from the flames.
Titanium will not contaminate silver or gold, while solder does not bond to it.
Platinum and titanium do not get along at high temperatures. For platinum work I suggest a tungsten soldering picks.
