I finally finished this pattern! It feels like it has been in the thinking/tinkering stages FOREVER.

When I was finalizing this pattern, I really wasn’t sure what to call it... Technically, it’s a shawl, as it uses a traditional triangle shawl increase pattern, but it has the shape and size to be a shawl, a wrap or even a cowl.

There is nothing that I love more than a making a multi-functional piece – the winter work-horse!

Not only is this wrap/shawl multi-functional, but I also chose a stitch pattern that looks beautiful on both the front and back sides of the piece. No shawl should ever have a ‘wrong’ side that you want to keep hidden! (The 'wrong side' of the wrap is shown in the last photo)

I would rate the difficulty of this pattern as 'Advanced Beginner'. It only uses Knit and Purls sts, but does require you to do increasing, slipped stitches and one little decrease.

I love creating patterns that look complicated, but are really so simple that even a beginner can knit them - patterns that might challenge a newby knitter just a bit, but in reality are not hard to follow and execute. When I was first starting to knit, it was patterns like these that helped to give me the confidence to try new things. The stitch I used is really just knits and purls, with some simple slipping of stitches from one needle to the other to create the wonderful woven texture. Once you block the finished piece, the pattern will really pop!

Another this that makes this pattern beginner-friendly is that you can use just about any weight yarn you want. You just need to decide if you want it to be more like a cowl (‘heavier’ yarn like worsted or aran weight) or something more delicate and light weight (fingering or lace weight yarns). Once you have your yarn weight figured out, choose your needle size and off you go!

The instructions for this pattern apply to any weight yarn, but the pattern specifics (materials, needles, etc) only refer to the finished shawl as shown, which was worked in a worsted weight wool yarn.

Nuts and Bolts for the pattern as shown in Worsted Yarn:
(yarn amounts used for wrap as shown, approx.) 340-400g/ 560-660 yards worsted weight yarn

US size 10.5 circular needles in a longer length (no shorter than 36” **) using Worsted weight yarn. Sample worked using Knitpicks Andes del Campo in ‘Smoulder Heather’; 3.5-4 skeins used.

4 stitch markers, sized appropriately for needle size.

**Circular needles are used to work flat for this project. Multiple lengths will make this easier, starting with 16” and moving up to 36” as needed. The most economical way to do this is with interchangeable tips. If you are using only one length of needle, choose a longer length **

Worsted: Before Blocking – Finished size 56” from point to point across the top, and 26.5” long down the center ‘spine’

Worsted: After Blocking - Finished size 70” from point to point across the top, and 32” long down the center ‘spine’

Average review
Easy to follow pattern. I may have gone overboard with 2 skeins of Cloudborn fingering. It's 8ft wide...
