Czech glass "druk" (round pressed smooth surface) beads in gorgeous, bright cornflower or periwinkle blue.
These beads are called "opalite," describing the semi-opaque, cloudy, marbled appearance that creates a milky opalescence in the glass.
Production of glass beads in the Czech Republic (in an area called Jablonec nad Nisou) dates back to the 14th century. This age-old cottage industry is known for its fine workmanship and many of the beads are still made in small quantities by hand.
Please note that images are taken with a macro lens cameral to capture as much detail as possible. Pay close attention to the size description.
For reference, a quarter coin is about 24mm in diameter.
Bead size: 6mm in diameter (a bit smaller than a pea!)
Quantity: Sold by the strand. Thirty (30) beads per strand.
