Oregon Sunstone 11 x 9 mm Rare Sunglitz Oval Cut Gemstone Weighs 3.75 Carats-INTENSELY SATURATED With Great Clarity-Unique 14 Sided Gemstone
This is a superb example of Oregon sunstone. It was mined in Lake County, Oregon at their world renowned sunstone mines. Athough sunstone can be found all over the world most notably Tanzania, India, and Madagascar, the Oregon sunstone variety tends to be the most coveted and popular of all sunstone material. The reason for this is that Oregon sunstone's platelet inclusions have a larger amount of copper giving it its special unique colors whereas sunstone from other parts of the world contain little to no copper as the basis for their platelet inclusions. Most other sunstone is colored by haematite platelets.
The stone measures 11 x 9 mm and weighs 3.75 carats. This is actually quite large for sunstone.
This gemstone has been expertly cut and faceted into a very unique 14-sided special oval gem called a "sunglitz" cut. Not all lapidaries have the skill, expertise or experience to cut such a rare and difficult shape. Imagine the number of hours it took the cutter to actually facet this lovely gemstone.
Typically, Oregon sunstone retails for approximately $50-$350 PER carat with gemstones larger than the coveted one carat mark fetching the highest prices. Remember this gemstone weighs a whopping 3.75 carats! I purchased this particular stone to go into my personal gemstone collection over five years ago and paid an even $100 for it. I have decided though to reduce the cost of this particular sunstone by 30 percent of what I paid due to the reason described in the next section.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a very small linear inclusion if you look at about 5 o'clock on the face of the gemstone. You can actually just make it out in photos #1, #2, and #4. This is most probably haematite or schorl within the gemstone. Although obvious in the pictures (which were shot on maximum zoom with my camera then adjusted on the etsy program to maximum zoom), once this gemstone is set into a piece of jewelry, that very small imperfection will not be visible to the naked eye.
If you purchase the gem and have it set and you can still see the inclusion I will be more than happy to refund your purchase price. But I am very confident in this and have been doing this long enough to know which inclusions (the type, their locations in a stone, and the optical characteristics of specific gemstone families), will or will not be visible after completion of the gemstone setting process. Additionally, this small linear internal characteristic in no way affects the integrity or durability of the gemstone. It is NOT a fissure or crack, rather a discoloration produced by natural elements that made their way into the crystal structure while it was being formed.
I just wanted to make sure you knew about this as I want my customers to know EVERYTHING about a stone and to be able to trust exactly what they are purchasing prior to actually making the decision to buy anything from me.
Thank you for visiting my shop on etsy.

Shipping & policies
My shipping rates are a flat fee of 4.50 for the first item and 0.99 for each additional item in the same order. This covers all the costs of envelopes, packaging material, handling fees and trips to the post office. Unfortunately, the USPS has raised their rates on ALL domestic and international packages by over 35 percent as of Thursday, January 31, 2018. I sincerely apologize for the shipping rate increase but is beyond my control.
If you are an INTERNATIONAL BUYER, please contact me prior to checkout so I can look up the correct postage for your particular country. Sometimes there are issues with the customs agency of your country, so expect that there might possibly be a delay in delivery of your item. Please note, once a package leaves the United States, there is nothing I can really do to find out exactly where your package might be. If there is an issue, please use the customs number I provided with your order and contact your country's customs agency to find out when you may expect to receive your item.
Additionally, for both domestic and international orders, please understand that I cannot be held responsible for incorrectly delivered packages, stolen packages or items lost by the United States post office or your country's postal service. In these cases, I will do my best to work with you to locate your package with the tracking number provided by USPS or in international shipping cases the customs number for your package. This also includes items being returned to me for refunds or exchanges as well.
Most of my jewelry is inexpensive so insurance is not necessary however some more expensive items, ie. emeralds, ruby, tanzanite, morganite and sapphires, & some of the vintage coins must be insured. All the best!
All items purchased from my shop carry a 30 day warranty. Any item found to be damaged within 30 days of original receipt date will either be replaced (if possible) or a refund given for the full purchase price including shipping costs.
PLEASE NOTE: Items that are deemed to be damaged by improper handling or cleaning on the part of the purchaser are not covered under this warranty.
It is highly advised that you inspect your gemstone or jewelry piece very carefully immediately upon receipt because after the thirty day warranty period expires from the original receipt date, I cannot issue any refunds or exchanges for any purchase of any kind. This is in part due to the large number of attempted scams that force me to strictly adhere to this policy.
I have included some tips and pointers below to aid you in taking better care of your merchandise and specific cleaning techniques to help minimize potential damage occurring to your jewelry or gems.
Many of my gemstone jewelry items can be fragile if not protected from knocks and bumps due to their hardness scores on the Moh's scale. Care must be taken by the buyer to protect against damage especially rings as they are the type of jewelry most susceptible to damage and softer, more brittle gemstones, for example, opals and gemstones with lower Moh's numbers.
Care must also be taken when cleaning certain gemstones. Never use ANY harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning on ANY items purchased from my shop. Using plain mild soap and warm water with an ultra soft toothbrush is the best cleaning method. This will help avoid damage to the gemstones used in creating some of my jewelry items and the gemstones themselves.
If you have any additional questions on how to take care of and protect your specific gemstone or jewelry piece, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be more than happy to share my knowledge with you.
ENJOY YOUR PURCHASE!!!!
