Bonsai, Exfoliating Bark, Fall Color, Fast Growth,Fragrant Fall Leaves The Katsura tree's size as well as its distinctive foliage and bark make it one of the most desirable ornamental trees for any yard or landscape. The tree is in the family cercidiphyllaceae, genus cercidiphyllum and the species is japonicumThe Katsura tree offers a year-round display of colour. The leaves sprout a reddish-purple colour and as the season moves along the dense foliage changes to a beautiful dark bluish-green. In the fall the leaves can be a bright yellow or orange colour. Even when all the leaves have fallen, the bark displays a handsome pattern of slight exfoliation and a medium gray colour.
In the fall the tree gives off a scent similar to cotton candy. The smell is a mix of fruity and spicy and is given off by the falling leaves. Katsura Tree is easily propagated from seeds
