Here is a very rare antique bowl manufactured by the United Indurated Fibre Co., which was located in Lockport NY. They were mainly known for their buckets and pails. In the 1880s they started to manufacture items made from compressed wood fiber (pulp). These items were very strong and once coated with varnish never leaked, they retained their shape and were very durable, and this bowl is proof of that. It retains a beautiful cherry patina. Adding to its primitive country charm, are the used, worn marks inside the bowl from many years of use.
Stamped on the bottom: “17 " United Indurated Fibre Co. Lockport, NY U.S.A. Patented: Feb. 6, 1883, Oct. 30, 1883, Feb. 12, 1884, June 2, 1885 and others.”
Measures 16.5" in diameter. (marked 17") Stands 5" tall. Footed base diameter is 8".
A wonderful addition for any historical city/town memorabilia collection and still very useable. You could make a lot of bread in this one!
