******* FAQs:

To try to answer your questions before you have to ask, YES, the regular/sticky vinyl IS an Oracal vinyl suitable for use outdoors and on tumblers, laptops, glass, etc. :)

I'm asked a lot if the regular/sticky vinyl is "glossy" or not. Well, "glossy" printed/patterned vinyl isn't really a thing. I know some of you use glossy colored vinyl and matte colored vinyl. Printable vinyl is a different animal. I can describe it to you this way... it is NOT that hideous, beastly looking garbage that people print out at home on their ink jet printers that feels like paper and runs like cheap mascara. :P We are a commercial printer using commercial equipment, substrates (that's a fancy word for materials), and inks. This stuff has a nice glossy texture to it once printed.

Another question we get often...is it laminated? NO. This stuff does not require lamination and can be used outdoors. We do offer lamination at an extra charge if you just have to have it.

There's also this stuff called Frog Juice that you can order online to add a protective coating to your vinyl that I hear good things about. I haven't needed it yet, nor have I needed to laminate any of my vinyl for my own projects, but I wanted to put that out there in case anyone wants to try it.

If you're interested in adding lamination to your vinyl sheets, convo us for a price quote. :)

What settings do I use on my cutter/iron/heat press/etc.?
Other than the info we've included below under Helpful Instructions, I wish I could answer that.

There are about as many cutters/irons/heat presses/etc. in the world as their are grains of sand (ok, that was an exaggeration, but you get what I mean). We don't use Cricuts or Silhouettes or any of the home-use tools you might have at your place, so it wouldn't be fair for us to try to guess at what your settings should be. User groups and company websites are two good places to find that info.

We made sure to find out beforehand that the materials we print to are compatible with the home cutters, etc. So THAT we know for sure. But as to how to tell you to use your gizmos... we just can't do that. However - there are TONS of YouTube videos and Facebook user groups and online info specific to your tools that MANY of our customers have found success with after a little Googling. The manufacturer of your machine might also have some useful info for you. *******

Adhesive and HTV vinyls are printed right here on our AMAZING Roland Versacamm using the best, brightest, highest quality ecosolvent inks and best quality vinyl materials (I just love my Roland. I hug her every morning. True story.).

Our patterns are not the pixelated, fuzzy, low resolution images some folks are trying to get away with selling you. Try ours and compare. We're confident you'll appreciate the difference! Also, as you're shopping, be aware that some folks are printing from basic home-use printers onto craft-grade laserjet or inkjet "printable vinyl". You're not going to be happy with the quality even if you saved a few dollars. Southern Bella Paperie uses only commercial-grade equipment and materials, so you're getting the same good stuff we sell to fancy sign shops. No kiddin'!

******************INSTRUCTIONS YOU MAY FIND HELPFUL - COPY/PASTE/PRINT***********************

Patterned Vinyl is cut and applied right-facing (pretty side up). Here are some instructions you might find useful...

WE RECOMMEND DOING A TEMPERATURE/TIME TEST BEFORE YOU START - ESPECIALLY IF THIS IS THE FRIST TIME USING THIS ITEM OR IF YOU ARE APPLYING WITH AN IRON.

HEAT TRANSFER VINYL INSTRUCTIONS: MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED SETTINGS: 320 DEGREES FOR 18 SECONDS.

YOU WILL NEED TRANSFER MASK / TAPE.

***USE A TEFLON SHEET OVER THE TRANSFER. THE TRANSFER TAPE WILL NOT COMPLETELY PROTECT THE VINYL FROM EXCESS HEAT. TEST ON A SCRAP FABRIC OR IN AN INCONSPICUOUS AREA FIRST TO FIGURE OUT YOUR INDIVIDUAL TIME AND IRON AND PRESS SETTINGS SINCE ALL IRONS AND PRESSES ARE DIFFERENT.

THE COTTON SETTING ON AN IRON IS TOO HOT. AN AVERAGE IRON COTTON SETTING IS AROUND 400 DEGREES. THE POLYESTER OR SILK SETTING IS USUALLY AROUND 300 DEGREES. IF THERE IS A DISTRESSED LOOK, FADED, SMEARING OR THE PATTERN LOOKS LIKE THE INKS ARE COMING UP. THEN THE IRON IS TOO HOT. IT IS BETTER TO START WITH A LOW TEMPERATURE AND ADD TIME RATHER THAN TEMPERATURE.

DIRECTIONS FOR HEAT PRESS

CUT PATTERN/COLOR RIGHT SIDE UP (PATTERN/PRETTY SIDE) AND WEED EXCESS MATERIAL. DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE BACKING. BACKING CAN BE THROWN AWAY ONCE REMOVED.. OU WILL ONLY WANT TO CUT THROUGH THE ACTUAL VINYL. APPLY MASK TRANSFER TAPE ON TOP OF VINYL DESIGN. SQUEEGEE, REMOVE BACKING AND PLACE DESIGN ON GARMENT RIGHT-FACING (PRETTY/PATTERN UP). COVER WITH TEFLON SHEET. HEAT PRESS AT 320 DEGREES WITH MEDIUM PRESSURE FOR ABOUT 18 SECONDS. PEEL HOT WITHIN 5 SECONDS.

DIRECTIONS FOR IRON

CUT PATTERN COLOR SIDE UP LIKE A DECAL (NOT IN REVERSE/MIRROR) AND WEED EXCESS MATERIAL. DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE BACKING. BACKING CAN BE THROWN AWAY ONCE REMOVED. YOU WILL ONLY WANT TO CUT THROUGH THE ACTUAL VINYL. APPLY MASK TRANSFER TAPE ON TOP OF VINYL DESIGN (PATTERN/PRETTY SIDE UP). SQUEEGEE, REMOVE BACKING AND PLACE DESIGN ON GARMENT RIGHT-FACING (PRETTY/PATTERN UP). COVER WITH TEFLON SHEET. TURN IRON ONTO LOW TO MEDIUM LOW HEAT (POLY OR SILK SETTING). START WITH 10-15 SECONDS WITH EVEN DOWNWARD PRESSURE AND ADD AN ADDITIONAL 5-10 SECONDS AS NEEDED. IT IS BETTER TO INCREASE TIME AS NEEDED THAN TEMPERATURE. TRY TO AVOID MOVING THE IRON SIDE TO SIDE. WHEN THE PATTERN OF THE FABRIC THREADS CAN BE SEEN ON THE VINYL AND THE EDGES ARE ATTACHED, THE VINYL IS PROPERLY ADHERED. PEEL HOT.

PLEASE NOTE: WHILE AN IRON CAN GET THE JOB DONE, A HEAT PRESS IS THE BEST EQUIPMENT TO APPLY HEAT TRANSFER VINYL.

HAPPY CRAFTING!!!
