Mango is one of my favorite woods to work with. There are so many variations in color and grain patterns, and the wood works beautifully with little issue. More than that, you can always be assured that it was harvested responsibly, even though there is a ready supply on the market. Mango is a harvest crop rather than a forest product, as such it generally has more value producing fruit than as lumber. When a tree no longer produces fruit for the orchard, it is cut to make room for a new tree, and its wood produced into lumber rather than being burned or sent to a landfill. This means that the lumber is both a sustainable product, and one that reduces waste and carbon emissions from another industry. Hawaiian plantations produce much of the mango wood on the market, however these pieces come from Costa Rica.
Colors will vary from rich, dark browns to tans and golds, often with color streaks and shimmering highlights. The pens are sanded to a very fine grit before being finished with an oil blend leaving a durable satin finish that feels soft and warm to the touch, rather than the plastic feel of a high gloss finish. You also have the option of hardware, which comes in Gold, Chrome, or Gunmetal.
Each pen comes with two high quality ink refills (one black and one blue) and a black velveteen gift pouch to keep it from getting scratched. Additional ink refills are also available.
PLEASE NOTE: These pens will generally be made to order within a few days of your order, the photos shown are representative of the product you will receive, not necessarily the exact item. As the materials used are organic in nature, each piece is unique and will vary in the exact tone and patterning of the figure. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
