This rare one of kind carved bone or horn belt is loose and flowing until it rests gently at the waist or on the hips. I found this belt at an upscale boutique with other designer clothes. I don’t recall the maker and there is no mark. I am not sure if the beads, which are incredibly hard, are bone or stone.
This unique piece is a one size fits all. This belt has the look and feel of tribal, old European, or Egyptian style and would give a memorable look to a peasant blouse, tunic blouse, classic dress or safari look. It would be magnificent with boots or sandals and the antique finish is compatible with evening or casual attire.
The whole carved beaded section measures 28.5 inches end to end and the entire piece from tassel to tassel measures in length 72 inches. This outstanding craftsmanship is hard to find these days. The beaded band drapes, when worn, is 4 inches in the center and graduates to 2 inches at the ends.
There are some tiny nicks on a few beads, they are not obvious (see photos). The straps are thick durable satin material and there are little golden bronze colored tassels at the ends. The straps do have some fraying where they attach to the beads (see photos).
This piece could make a collectible wall hanging, classical Roman, Greek or other historical theatrical belt. The beads may be re-purposed for crafting.
