WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE: Hardy #1 Grade WELL ESTABLISHED, 1 Year Elderberry Sambucus Canadensis Live Fruit Plant(s) Seedlings. (see picture #2 in it's non-dormant state). Plants will be significantly smaller in it's full dormant state as all top growth dies off in the winter months (Nov-June). Ships Bare root to CA ONLY per CA ag requirements with certification.

NOTE: EXPECT: NO LEAVES/leaf droop/drop/discolored /discolored/blackened stem during heat/cold of seasonal changes/shipping/Full dormancy. THIS IS NORMAL as all perennial fruit plants display these characteristics in varying seasonal changes. Leaf/Stem change conditions DO NOT effect the health of the plant/ root systems as all leaves and/or stems will eventually Fall off during the Fall/Winter months naturally. Pic #2 is example of approx size BEFORE it's Full Dormancy State of 12"-24". Inert Stems may become brittle in it's dormancy and fall off. This too is NORMAL as new emergence grows from it's root system until it's 2nd year.

Displayed pictures in item listings is that of representation of Mature plants/growth season and not necessarily the condition/maturity in which you will receive it, unless otherwise stated.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE send PICS on Arrival if plants arrive to you damaged per USPS requirements.

***Plants will go into dormancy/Full dormancy NOV-JUNE. Plant out in permanent location for spring emergence. NO extra winter protection needed for these SUPER HARDY plants! Plants will emerge new growth from their root systems and occasionally current stem approx June/July depending on your climate and when you order as we still have freezing temps into June here in the far North..

ONLY hardy Elderberry Sambucus Canadensis Live plants are shipped (even in their Dormant state) from our Nursery! PLEASE CARE for live plants like any other living thing and allow Mother Nature HER TIME.

Sambucus canadensis, Elderberry, Black Elderberry Fruits, Fruit, Fruit Bush

-Hardy-Zones 3-8 Honeysuckle family (Caprifoliaceae) Description: This is a deciduous shrub about 4-12' tall. It is usually a multistemmed shrub; these woody stems usually have an arching habit, creating a relatively loose broad crown. On larger and older woody stems, the bark is light grayish brown and warty in appearance from scattered short lenticels (air pores). Young woody branches are light grayish brown or light yellowish brown and more smooth, although scattered short lenticels are still evident.

Young shoots are light green. The pith of young branches and stems is relatively large in cross-section and white; they are somewhat brittle and weak. Along these young branches and shoots, there are pairs of opposite compound leaves; they are about 6-12" long and a little less across. These compound leaves are mostly simple-pinnate with 5-9 leaflets (2-4 pairs of opposite leaflets and one terminal leaflet). Sometimes the innermost pair of leaflets on a compound leaf are divided into 3 subleaflets that are slightly smaller in size than the simple leaflets. The leaflets are 2½–5" long and ¾–2" across; they are lanceolate or elliptic in shape and serrated along their margins. The upper leaflet surface is medium to dark green and glabrous, while the lower leaflet surface is light green and either glabrous, slightly hairy along the major veins, or short-pubescent throughout.

***Medicinal Uses: Fruits are traditionally used for cold and flu remedies, especially stuffy or runny nose. Highly anti-oxident, strengthening the immune system.

***The Black Berries, Fruits are also used for to make delicious Elderberry syrup, jams, jelly, pies, juice and wine.

FAQs

Live plants are susceptible to leaf/stem changes during shipping/season as otherwise described. This condition is NORMAL and does not qualify for refunds/returns or exchanges. EXPECT browned/wilted/drooped/leaf drop/black stems upon arrival in SOME cases. This does not effect the overall healthiness of the plant as all of these conditions will happen naturally in the Fall/Winter months when plants go into dormancy. Should varying leaf/stem conditions occur, pot up immediately upon arrival and keep in shaded area and plant out in permanent location in Fall. The only circumstance allowed for refund is if plants show up damaged/broken. All buyers are required to send pics on arrival in these conditions for refund.

Height and width of plant is irrellevent to determining size of plant as it is it's AGE of it's root system that determines size unless otherwise stated of approx height or width in individual listings. Plants are often times pruned down prior to shipping either to encourage thicker branching for next growing season or it is past it's growing stage for the season when 'spent' top foliage is cut off. Perennial flowers will die to the ground in the Fall/Winter months and woody perennials will lose all leaves. During Fall and Winter shipping, EXPECT: No leaves/browning/dried/black stems/droop. This is a NORMAL characteristic of all perennial plants coming from our far North Nursery

Any and all of our listings can be custom ordered for wholesale pricing/quantity. Please messenge us anytime you would like to purchase in bulk/wholesale if we have enough product availability.

Plants shipped quickly and arrived on time. Sadly, only one of the two seems to have been viable. I can't fault the seller, as this happens sometimes with live plant purchases and was not the result of negligence.

Wow!!! Fantastic!!! A+++ Both my plants arrived in top notch! They were healthy and well packaged for shipping, arrived in dormant state just as described, as it is winter season. I didn't have pots to put them in just yet, so I opened them up a bit to breath, by the next day , they had fresh green shoots coming out! Wow!!!! Excellant company, I couldn't be happier! Thanks so very much for my hard to find plants!!!! Super happy plant lover over here!!! :)

Received earlier than expected and the plant is healthy and in terrific shape. It was well-protected, and I couldn't be happier--this is a great place to buy from. Some have had problems--I read the reviews-- and it seems to be because they have not read the plant care literature that comes with the plants carefully or they don't understand plant dormancy, or both. It is unfair to blame Organic Heirloom for customer error. I've received plants from other companies that APPEAR to be completely dead. Don't let that fool you, they are dormant, not dead. Plant them and you'll see. I highly recommend this company!

Ordered elderberry plants and they were sent to an old address which was my fault. Immediately contacted the seller who did not respond. The sellers communication, customer service, and responses have been unprofessional and rude. Will not order from here again.
