Item details

Beauty contest winner! Yashica FX-D Quartz with Yashica ML 50mm f/2 and a Domke "Gripper" strap. I don't care for Yashica straps. The Domke is more comfortable and won't slip off your shoulder. Like nearly all Yashica FX cameras still in use, this one suffered from flaking leatherette. The delicate cover material had a soft comfortable feel but soon deteriorated into a peeling mess.

I recovered this one in red lizard-grain cowhide from Aki Asahi in Japan, giving it a unique appearance. Now it looks as good as it works. I will probably recover my other FX-D, even though it has some marks on the top plate.

The FX-D is sometimes called a "Baby Contax" because of the great similarity to the Contax 139 Quartz, built by Yashica on the same chassis. It was the final Kyocera-made FX and my favorite of the line. The FX-3 and FX-7 were made by Cosina, with lesser specifications. Yashica bayonet and Contax/Zeiss lens and motor drives work on either camera. Yashica ML and DSB lenses are very good, the Zeiss glass is exceptional.
