Item details

This high quality plated wire is perfect for wire wrapping. It will not flake or chip. The half hard temper is firm enough to allow it to somewhat hold a shape. It's tarnish resistant. This has been a very popular wire for years. The gold wire does not have an actual gold content. It is an amalgam of gold color metals.
The silver is the same wire I have been selling for 10 years under silver filled. I have decided to move it into the plated section, as it does not strictly meet industry standards for filled. It contains fine sterling silver.
This wire is pre rolled at the factory and lengths are approximate. They are about an ounce.

14 g is about 6 ft
16 g is about 9 ft
18 g is about 13 ft
20 g is about 19 ft
22 g is about 30 ft
24 g is about 40 ft
26 g is about 65 ft

14 gauge 1.5 mm
16 gauge 1.2 mm
18 gauge 1.0 mm
20 gauge 0.8 mm
22 gauge 0.6 mm
24 gauge 0.5 mm
26 gauge 0.4 mm

FAQs

12 gauge is the thickest wire and 28 gauge is the thinnest.

Most metals can be cleaned in an ultrasonic device, but be cautious about the plating on antiqued caps.

Any earring can be done in another color bead or metal. The caps may not be identical but they will be close. Please ask for what ever you want. Any earring can have a matching pendant made.

I don't offer gift wrapping formally, but will do my best to accommodate if needed. I will often include a small note card at the customer's request for gifts.

I buy from wholesalers and am not one myself, so don't offer this on supplies. I do offer a wholesale discount on jewelry. Please contact me for details.

20 Gauge half hard is best for ear wires. Don't use plated for this application. Half hard is firm and will hold a shape. Dead soft is very pliable and will not hold a shape unless wrapped.

Tumbling is the best way to clean solid, bare wires. Do not tumble plated wires. Brass, copper or silver cleaner can be used. Be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly.

I use Jax silver blackener for my silver. I also use jax for brass and copper. Do not use these products on plated wires. You can then use a buffing block to highlight your piece.

This is the most challenging of all the aspects of online selling. Whatever camera you use, try to use fine zoom and the macro setting for close ups. Use a light tent if you have one or a southern exposure window about 2 pm. No glare then.
