The applique is done in Tile Quilt technique but could also be stitched in Stained-Glass Applique technique.
Tile Quilt technique is a simple, traditional method in which the pieces are turned under and stitched down to reveal the dark background. It's sort of like a crazy quilt but the background shows through as dark lines---Arts & Crafts style.
The applique pieces range from large to small and there is one applique stitch involved so an ambitious beginner could do this small piece.
