I put together this collection of ten (10) Australian Lightning Ridge black opal oval cut gemstone cabochons together mainly with jewelers and/or artisans in mind, however anyone who wishes to own this stunning set of black opals can certainly use them to create jewelry with, collect, or give as gifts especially since opal is the official birthstone for the month of October.
Each stunning oval cut gem cabochon triplet measures 8 x 6 mm and the total gemstone weight of all ten stones combined is 8.95 carats.
When selecting the ten stones to become part of this parcel, I wanted to make sure I chose various types of play of color (opalescence) such as pinfire, flashfire, broadflash, a variety of base colors including deep azure blues, silver, black, grey and dark green. There are even a few gemstones that would match close enough in their opalescent characteristics to create sets of earrings with.
When a lot of folks hear the word "parcel", they think that the stones making up the parcel are "bottom of the barrel" low quality, chipped, cracked or otherwise less than the highest quality material. I know I always did. NOT THIS PARCEL. Like I said, I carefully put together this set to represent all of the different types of black opal there is and each and every piece is very well cut, calibrated to fit all 7 x 5 mm settings, and the highest quality Australian Lightning Ridge black opal available. This set is NOT one of those "take your chance parcels". I know that you will love each and every piece I have selected to become part of this collection.
Triplets are the way to go if you are purchasing opal to create jewelry with. The top layer which is made of the highest quality crystal clear quartz actually protects the precious opal underneath it in more ways than one. Firstly, opal is a very soft and brittle gemstone. If it is not protected it can chip, crack and break altogether and rings are especially susceptible to mechanical damage such as bumping and knocking. Secondly, the play of color (opalescence) that we all associate with opals is completely dependent upon the water content within the gemstone's crystal structure. Opal can dry out easily. If an opal becomes dehydrated, it will not only lose its play of color but also a phenomenon called "crazing" will occur. Crazing is the diffuse "spider web" cracking on the surface of the opal. Once crazing occurs it is irreversible and the gemstone is ruined. Triplet opals offer the protection against all of these types of damage that opal is so susceptible to. You can even make rings with opal triplets without the worries of shattering the precious opal gem. Solid forms of black opal are usually cut into free form shapes to preserve every bit of the precious stone as possible and is not usually used to make rings with. The most popular jewelry created with solid opal are pendants. But even then, you have to worry about the gemstone drying out and allowing crazing to occur. Triplet opals are just the safest way to own fine Australian black opal at a fraction of the price. Solid Aussie black opal can fetch prices of $10,000 or more per piece. Who wants to spend money like that only to constantly worry that the gemstone is going to become ruined?
Each opal in this set is less than $9.00 PER STONE!!! You won't find quality Aussie black opal triplets this size for anywhere close to this price anywhere else. If you do, then by all means buy it or let me know and I will buy it from you! Just be very careful. There are a lot of gemstone scammers out there that will happily sell you fake gemstones while telling you they are authentic.
There is virtually no end to the combination of jewelry pieces you can create with this set of ten opals. You could make ten rings, ten pendants, five and five, and the list goes on and on.
Opal is the official birthstone for the month of October. These stones would be excellent birthstone gifts for anyone.

I sincerely apologize for the shipping rate increase but is beyond my control.

All the best!
All items purchased from my shop carry a 30 day warranty. Any item found to be damaged within 30 days of original receipt date will either be replaced (if possible) or a refund given for the full purchase price including shipping costs.
PLEASE NOTE: Items that are deemed to be damaged by improper handling or cleaning on the part of the purchaser are not covered under this warranty.
It is highly advised that you inspect your gemstone or jewelry piece very carefully immediately upon receipt because after the thirty day warranty period expires from the original receipt date, I cannot issue any refunds or exchanges for any purchase of any kind. This is in part due to the large number of attempted scams that force me to strictly adhere to this policy.
I have included some tips and pointers below to aid you in taking better care of your merchandise and specific cleaning techniques to help minimize potential damage occurring to your jewelry or gems.
Many of my gemstone jewelry items can be fragile if not protected from knocks and bumps due to their hardness scores on the Moh's scale. Care must be taken by the buyer to protect against damage especially rings as they are the type of jewelry most susceptible to damage and softer, more brittle gemstones, for example, opals and gemstones with lower Moh's numbers.
Care must also be taken when cleaning certain gemstones. Never use ANY harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning on ANY items purchased from my shop. Using plain mild soap and warm water with an ultra soft toothbrush is the best cleaning method. This will help avoid damage to the gemstones used in creating some of my jewelry items and the gemstones themselves.
If you have any additional questions on how to take care of and protect your specific gemstone or jewelry piece, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be more than happy to share my knowledge with you.
ENJOY YOUR PURCHASE!!!!
