Item details

The Acton is a versatile dress with two bodice options and two skirt options (that are
interchangeable), designed for woven fabrics. The bodice is lined, features princess panels for a lovely fit around the bust, and is fastened with an invisible zip.

The pattern is available in 10 sizes, from bust 76cm (30in) - 131cm (51.5in).
The pattern is nested, to make it easier for you to grade between sizes.

The Acton is beautifully designed and carefully drafted to include many interesting details, to make this a very enjoyable sew for confident sewers. The pattern comes with fully illustrated instructions to hold your hand every step of the way (there is also a 'cheat sheet' available for those of you who don't want your hand held) which can be printed at home, or simply viewed on a computer or tablet.

View A features a fitted bodice with a low back and thin shoulder straps. The skirt is A-line, and includes (optional) in-seam pockets in the side seams.

View B features a fitted bodice with racer-back and thin shoulder straps. The skirt is a wrap that can be tied in a number of ways to achieve different silhouettes.

Difficulty: The pattern is placed at a Level 6 on the In the Folds pattern skill scale, which means you should be confident using sewing patterns and can handle basic pattern alterations to achieve a good fit. For more information on the this, please visit

By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in: achieving a great fit, working with tricky fabrics, sewing princess seams, inserting an invisible zip and lining a garment.

Suggested fabrics: The Acton is compatible with a range of different fabrics. Your choice of fabric will govern the silhouette you achieve.

For view A, consider using mid-weight fabrics such as: linen, cotton or chambray. For a softer
silhouette, consider sateen, silk (crepe de chine or habotai) or viscose (rayon).

For view B, fabrics with good drape will work best. Consider silk or polyester crepe de chine,
viscose (rayon) or a lightweight cotton or linen.

(View A)

Fabric - 1.8m x 150cm wide (2 yards x 60in) OR 2.3m x 115cm wide (2 1/2 yards x 45in)
40cm (16in) invisible zip
Coordinating thread

(View B)

Fabric - Sizes A-D only: 2.2m x 150 cm wide fabric (2½yards x 60in) Sizes E-K only: 3.6m x 150cm wide fabric (4 yards x 60in)
50cm (19in) invisible zip
Coordinating thread

***NOTE: For 115cm (45in) wide fabrics in all sizes and 150cm (60in) wide in sizes E-K, the skirt will need to be cut on the cross grain (due to the scale of the pattern pieces). When selecting fabric, be careful to choose a fabric that does not have a directional print and drapes well in both directions.

Digital product details: The pattern is suitable for printing on both A4 and US letter sized paper (and also includes a full size print shop version, which prints on 3 x A0 sheets).

Question: How do I find my pattern files ?

> Click on the "Purchases & Reviews" item. You'll find your order in there. Your patterns will always be there for you to download!
Let me know if you have any further problems!

Question: How do I know if my pattern has printed out correctly?
Always check the page scaling before printing the entire pattern. Print page 1 and check that the test square measures 5cm x 5cm (or 1in x 1in) You really need to be precise, so if you don't get these measurements check your printer settings and try again.

If you're having trouble getting your printed copies to match these sizes, try these steps:
1. Check that the page scaling is set to 'none' or 'no scaling' or 'actual size'
2. Open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader (which can be downloaded for free, if you don't already have it installed)

Question: Does In the Folds sell printed patterns?
Not yet! But watch this space, because it is something that I plan to do in the future

Question: Does the pattern come in my size?
