.5inx.5in vile of Catskill Mountain mineral pigment.
Grinded by hand into powder using traditional technique.
This powder pigment was made from Catskill red shale, an iron-oxide rich, sedimentary rock. Color is similar to a Burnt Siena, or an earthy red-brown. Each vial comes with a little note about where the stone was found,
This dose of pigment is meant to be mixed with linseed oil, Gum Arabic, water, or other painting medium on a dry stone or glass palette. Mixed best if mulled with a glass Muller. Good for 1-2 small paintings.
