•••••FAQ about the decals when FIRING DECALS IN KILN:•••••

*For more information about how the decals are made and work in the kiln fusing process visit www.fired-on.com*

Q: How do these decals work in the kiln?
A: The black toner that I print these particular decals with is iron rich. The iron in the toner fuses with the glaze on your piece or your glass or enamel making it permanent / food safe / microwave & oven safe.

Q: Can I put the cup/platter/plate with the final decal image in a microwave oven?
A: Yes. As long at the original item was microwave safe, it still will be.

Q: Is it food safe?
A: Yes. It will be as food-safe as the original item.

Q: Is it dishwasher safe?
A: Yes. It will be as dishwasher safe as the original item.

Q: If I put this on ceramic, does it have to be on glaze?
A: No & Yes....this will fuse in a kiln to bisque/glaze/glass...but, when a decal is fired to only bisque pottery/ceramic (no glaze)...without top coat covering the fired decal it can easily be smudged if rubbed.

Q: Will this work on glass?
A: Yes, the firing instructions are different, but the image will transfer to both glass and ceramic.

Q: Can I apply these decals on top of any fired glaze?
A: Yes. You many have to experiment/test-fire to determine the correct firing temperature for your specific glaze(s).

Q: What color are the images created with these decals?
A: Once fired, the decals leave a rich sepia brown-colored image.

Q: Can you print your decals in color?
A: I can do full color decals...but they cannot be fired in a kiln. My black decals are printed with an high iron based toner that reacts with the glaze/bisque or glass in the kiln and the decal burns off but the iron fuses with your piece in a brown sepia tone that is dishwasher, microwave, oven and food safe.

•••••FAQ about the decals:•••••

Q: Can I use these as regular craft water-slide decals?
A: Yes. The decal is a regular water-slide decal printed in a particular way so that it will also work in a kiln.

Q: What non-kiln use type surfaces do the decals work on?
You can use any of these water-slide decals on almost all non-porous surface like finished wood, glass, ceramic, candles, fishing rods, model cars, model trains, tiles, metals, fiberglass, hard plastic.

Q: When should I request a mirrored image?
A: Typically you don't want to request a mirrored print. Depends on how you are using the decal. It will burn onto pottery in a kiln as it printed on the paper. When fusing glass in a kiln, depending on if it is transparent or not and where you put the decal (topside or underside)...it burns onto the glass as it is printed on the paper. If you use it as a craft decal, if you are putting on the surface of a non-transparent object, then regular printing is recommended... if you are putting it on the backside of glass or transparent object then you need to decide the best way to have it print.

A: My answer is: If the image is legal, then yes I will print it. Personally I agree with the following straight from Etsy House Rules: Art and history can be provocative, emotional, and divisive. There are some topics on which we may never reach a consensus as a community, and that is okay. In the words of Joyce Carol Oates, “art should not be comforting; for comfort, we have mass entertainment and one another. Art should provoke, disturb, arouse our emotions, expand our sympathies in directions we may not anticipate and may not even wish.” https://www.etsy.com/listing/493434502/kiln-fire-ceramic-pottery-or-glass-water
