Welcome to Melbury Hill's range of Crewelwork kits, all designed by me. All kits are made from top quality British materials. Linen twill from Scotland, manufactured by time honoured traditional weaving techniques, making the linen truly special. Appleton wools, produced in London from the C19th and reputedly used by the great William Morris in his works. All the kits come with full written and pictorial instructions and of course a suitable needle to complete your project. The designs are based on period artwork, with Melbury Hill's own ideas and expressions.

Crewelwork embroidery of the first half of the C17th traditionally consisted of a single colour. These delightful monochrome embroideries depicted local and exotic animals alike and were traditionally worked with just a few stitches. Stem or outline stitch to form the subject features and seeding, a shamble of small stitches, to shade and give depth to the designs.
I studied at the Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court Palace, Uk. Since passing my apprenticeship with distinction, I've worked as a freelance textile and embroidery kit designer among other things including running a shop for five years, artist in Oils and Antique dealer.
