Item details

This is an incredible chance to own a piece of women’s history. For sale is a copy of The Mother’s Magazine from May 1919. In 1918, World War I was just ending. On the magazine cover, a woman is reading to her two children.

The magazine contains quite a few interesting articles and ads, such as:
- America Must Be United - a warning against sectionalism
- Palmolive Soap - “Once a Queen’s secret, now your favorite soap”
- The Home Vegetable Garden and Safety in the Child’s Garden
- Welcoming Entrance Halls - an article with a cool set of pictures showing what home interiors looked like back then

The Mother’s Magazine was a monthly publication published by The George E. Cook Co. in New York. It was “a monthly journal devoted to the technique of motherhood and homemaking”. The maintained an office and bureau of investigation in Washington DC to get first hand information on all matters of interest to mothers - very cool!

► SIZE
Measures 8” W x 11” H. 89 Pages.

► CONDITION
Appears to be a almost a full issue with a mix of color and black and white ads. The back cover is at least missing. This magazine is almost 100 years old. Due to age, there is definitely wear to the paper including marks, tears and bends. The magazine is almost entirely intact. You will also find that the magazine has a musty “old paper” smell to it. These were rescued from the attic of a duplex in Michigan in the 1960s and kept in one family since.
