*Although there are 2 doors available, the list price is for 1 door. If you are planning on buying just 1 door, please email us after the auction to let us know which of the 2 you would like.*
Beautiful, tall, pocket or sliding doors salvaged from an old row house in Harlem, NY. Each door is made of solid pine and has 4 recessed panels on each side, with a decorative strip of molding in between the upper and lower panels.
If you think that pine is a weak, soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber.
Hardware: The doors are not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store, and tons more in our physical store.
* If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood, email us for a quote.
Quirks & Considerations: We got the doors from a customer of ours in a trade. The doors have been sanded and are ready for primer and a new coat of paint. He also planned on using them as traditional, swinging doors and cut mortises for hinges. We could plug those with solid wood for $25/door.
The exterior width of Door#2 measures 31 3/8" at the top and 31 5/8" at the bottom; the interior width measures 31 5/8" at the top and 32" at the bottom. We could cut the width to an even 31 3/8", cut it narrower, or even build it up to make it wider--email us for a quote.
Although both doors have been awkwardly cut leaving one stile wider than another, we could fix this by adding wood to the narrower stile or cutting the wider stile. Let us know what size you need the doors, and we'll give you a quote.
Condition: The doors are in great condition and only have the typical nicks, scrapes, and scratches that you would expect to find on an old, used door. However, once the doors are painted, these blemishes will either be invisible, or only appear as subtle "character marks."
Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the doors to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photo in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Modification: We could also modify the doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
