(Penny Rugs were originally made from recycled wool and used as doormats in the early 1800's. They used to sew pennies into them to weight them down and made them lay flat. They eventually became samples of decorative needlework and so came off the floors and were displayed on top of tables, dressers, and beds and other furniture.
I am intrigued by the materials used, the traditional simple folk art designs and the functional aspects of this traditional craft. I have always loved needlework and embellishing my work with hand embroidery, recreating the beautiful stitches of bygone days. This medium was meant for me! I strive to use heirloom quality materials and craftsmanship. If you have any questions about my work, or materials please feel free to contact me.)
