Joy - Huacaya Alpaca defined crimp and unbelievable luster, fawn color
What makes this fleece different? Little to no veggie matter!! How did this happen? One week before we sheared, the area experienced a torrential down pour, over 4 & 1/2 inches of rain, in about 2 hours. I have included a weather calendar so you can see for yourself. It was unbelievable, but the result was the naturally cleanest alpaca fleece ever! So this really is nature's bounty! I had the pleasure of running my hands through 25 of the cleanest, softest, alpaca fleeces, shearing day 4/23/16! I was so impressed with how beautifully clean of vm, I kept telling the owner (who usually sends her fleece out to be processed minus what I get to spin!) how truly clean and luxurious these are, hoping she would allow me to offer up some of these for sale to spinners. I am in my happy place when I spin these - right from the cloud!!
A Word About Alpaca Fiber ~
While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca is naturally water-repellent and difficult to ignite. Huacaya, an alpaca that grows soft spongy fiber, has natural crimp, thus making a naturally elastic yarn well-suited for knitting. The alpaca has a very fine and light fleece. It does not retain water, is a thermal insulator even when wet and can resist solar radiation effectively. These characteristics guarantee the animals a permanent and appropriate coat to protect against extreme changes of temperature. This fiber offers the same protection to humans.
A Word About Me ~
I have been spinning since 2008, I have many spindles, a Kromski Symphony Wheel, and a Spinolution Firefly. I have many items made of alpaca, and have never been disappointed with the final product. Last year I produced enough 3 ply fine yarn on a spindle to knit my then one year old grandson a sweater with hood. I do much more spinning and knitting then I do selling. But.. this fleece was just so special, it's like witnessing the stars align so perfectly, you just want to share the experience with someone.
A Word to You ~
If you have never spun Alpaca, this will spoil you. Don't you deserve it? You will not find Alpaca Fleece in the Raw, quite this clean.
