This Cowichan-inspired kit includes yarn and the pattern for circularly-knitted mittens in four sizes. Based on the wonderful sweaters knitted by the Coast Salish people of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, these mittens incorporate motifs used in some of the traditional pullovers and cardigans. The pattern has Theory Boxes on how to weave the stranded yarns English style and how to avoid the purl bump when changing colors in ribbing and also includes charts, a List of Abbreviations, and a Bibliography. Directions for hats and mittens are both in the pattern, but THIS KIT IS FOR MITTENS ONLY. If you would like a kit for both hats and mittens, see my kit "Cowichan-Inspired Hats and Mittens" here on my Etsy shop.
Kit for mittens includes 1 skein each of Sandy Heather, Brown, and Cream.
Sizes: S: Small child (4-6 years) M: 8 years to Small Adult L: Large (Medium to Large Adult) XL: Extra-Large (Extra-Large Adult)
The yarn used is a blend of 15% mohair and 85% wool and approximates the weight used for the traditional Cowichan sweaters. Knitted at 14 stitches per 4 inches, these projects are quick and fun to make! All you need is a set of US size 10.5 double pointed needles, stitch markers, a stitch holder, and a tapestry needle.
