Item details

Hot cut hardy tools are used in the anvil or clamped in a vise to cut hot metal. Use a hammer to push the metal through the cutting tool. Cut most of the way through, then break the piece off to prevent flying hot metal. A cheap ball pein or brass hammer is best to save the face of your nice forging hammers if you cut through. These tools are made from spring steel. Square shanks fit the square hole in the anvil and prevent rotation.

Two styles are available: Single and Double bevel.
The hot cut hardy with double bevel is the traditinoal style and gives a tapered cut to both ends. A tapered cut is helpful when the next operation will be tapering the ends.

The hot cut hardy with a single bevel gives a flat cut on one side. Depending on your next operation, this can be used for either side of the cut. Put stock with a flat cut back in the stock rack, or leave the indentation on the scrap to be thrown away.

Either style can be used, but it is nice to have one of each available at the anvil.

Anvils come in a variety of sizes. Measure the square hole size of your anvil to determine the shank size required. Any size can be clamped in the vise for a more secure hold or to keep it out of the way while forging. Other sizes may be available upon request. Anvil not included.

This item fits in a small flat rate box for fast shipping. Send a message if you need a listing with multiple sizes or styles for combined shipping.

Well made and excellent service. I sent wrong measurement and they cheerfully replaced no questions asked. Highly recommend.

The service, the product, , the accurate depiction, the timeliness of shipping & the shipping itself were all excellent. In this day of anonymous computer aided purchases this shop still managed to treat me like a respected customer and not a $ sign. I would recommend this shop to everyone and I will use this shop again for similar needs.

If you have a custom project of your own that you'd like us to complete, send us the details. We will try to arrange an agreement or may know another metalworker that you can contact.
